China’s Great Wall is an iconic image for both Chinese and non-Chinese people. The Wall draws a boundary between what is wanted and unwanted for the self and for the group. This second China and the World group relations conference aims to explore how we manage our desires and fears in relation to the other. (https://www.chinaandtheworldgrc.org/)
During this session we will not have the bidirectional translation between Mandarin and English by cultural interpreters that was available during the China and the World GRC. Participants may wish to consider using automated tools such as Zoom’s captioning and autotranslation capability, or apps such as Google Translate, Say Hi, or 腾讯翻译君. This may be an opportunity to reflect on both the limitations and rich transference/countertransference potential of gaps and slips in translation and, ultimately, in all communication.
